May. 6th, 2007 01:08 pm Some Facts...

If you yelled for 8 years, 7 months and 6 days you would have produced enough sound energy to heat one cup of coffee. (Hardly seems worth it, but i bet msloon could produce a cup every day!)

If you farted consistently for 6 years and 9 months, enough gas is produced to create the energy of an atomic bomb. (so THAT'S what ricky and nicholas have been planning!)

The human heart creates enough pressure when it pumps out to the body to squirt blood 30 feet.

A pig's orgasm lasts 30 minutes.

A cockroach will live nine days without its head before it starves to death.

Banging your head against a wall uses 150 calories a hour. (that one's for you msloon)

The male praying mantis cannot copulate while its head is attached to its body. The female initiates sex by ripping the male's head off. ("Honey, I'm home. What the..?!")

The flea can jump 350 times its body length. It's like a human jumping the length of a football field.

The catfish has over 27,000 taste buds. (What could be so tasty on the bottom of a pond?)

Some lions mate over 50 times a day. (I unfortunately witnessed this when the last time I was at the zoo, i got all excited because you could hear the roaring on the other side of the zoo and I thought there was a fight...but no...)

Butterflies taste with their feet. (Something I've always wanted to do.)

The strongest muscle in the body is the tongue.

Right-handed people live, on average, nine years longer than left-handed people. (If you're ambidextrous, do you split the difference?)

Elephants are the only animals that cannot jump. (probably for the best.)

A cat's urine glows under a black light. (I wonder how someone figured that out? if I get a blacklight can i come over michelle/mimi? for completly unrelated reasons of course!)

An ostrich's eye is bigger than its brain. (I know some people like that.)

Starfish have no brains. (I know some people like that too.)

Polar bears are left-handed. (If they switch, they'll live a lot longer)

May. 5th, 2007 04:42 pm It's Official!

I am now a canoe/kayak instructor at camp manitou this summer instead of ropes/climbing instructor. It's exciting, i'm looking forward to the change...hopefully i don't regret it.

BUT i do have to go for an extra training weekend before camp, which they will cover the cost for, so that I can become certified in canoe/kayaking.

Apr. 24th, 2007 02:22 pm canoe/kayak or ropes/climbing???

to switch or not to switch. I might have the chance to change which staff I'm on this summer. I'll write a little bit on each activity and you can tell me what you think.

ROPES/CLIMBING:

Pros:
-I did this last summer, so I know everything now
-laid back, fun, good staff
-Cool special days like: Dale Evan Competition, Crazy Electrical Tape Facial Hair Day, Tunnel day, Night Line (doing the zip line at night) and other fun random events

Cons:
-alot of the time is spent on the ropes course in the forest and later in the summer there's alot of mosquitos that are annoying.
-have to lift heavy kids all day long
-i have to wear running shoes (sounds stupid but i HATE wearing socks and shoes, i live in flip flops in the summer and it gets sooo hot at manitou, shoes are unbearable)
-alot of equipment to take care of, take out and put away everyday, several times a day

CANOE/KAYAK:

Pros:
-Closer to girls camp, nice relaxing location
-right on the lake so I can so swimming whenever I want
-supposed to be just as laid back as ropes if not more
-new activity to try

Cons:
-have to be trained since it is a new activity (go for 3 day training in june)
-big hill to walk up to get to and from there
-much farther away from the dining hall and most of camp

WHAT DO YOU THINK!?

Dec. 22nd, 2006 01:11 am Guardian angels?

Coming home in the cab tonight i was annoyed because i thought the cab driver was driving slowly on purpose to catch red lights and make me have to pay more.

I accidentally missed our street because I didn't recognize it and I didn't want to pay over $10 for the cab ride home so i told him just to let me out on dundas. I paid him with a $50 bill, and asked for $40 change, so he knew I had plenty of money.

He still said "Are you sure this is ok for me to drop you off here?" and I said "yeah it's fine" and he said "I don't care about the money, are you sure this is a safe place for you to be dropped off? I'll drive you all the way to your home, don't worry about the money." and so I said "thank you so much, that would be great". he told me it was alright and that mistakes happen, he would rather drive me the extra distance, than leave me in a bad area to walk home.

Even though he was just driving me up dundas, down keele, then down annette and then to my house I still thought it was really really nice of him, because other cab drivers wouldn't think twice.

I felt so guilty for thinking badly of him the whole car ride home just because he wasn't driving fast like all the other cab drivers do.

That really touched my heart, and I hope he stays safe and has a happy life.
